Dental Implants

A dental implant is a tooth replacement technique that delivers unsurpassed longevity and durability. Patients with missing teeth experience a return to oral comfort and function with this state-of-the-art restorative method. A dental implant looks and feels completely natural because it mimics the structure of a natural tooth. Dr. Presser’s advanced training as a prosthodontist and periodontist qualify him to perform the implant surgery, then attach custom-made replacement teeth.

Structure of a Dental Implant

A dental implant consists of two parts: a surgical-grade titanium post to replace the root – the part of the tooth that you don’t see – and a custom-made crown or other dental prosthetic to replace the part of the tooth that you do see.

The Implant Process

Dr. Presser is a highly trained specialist who performs all facets of implant dentistry in our Philadelphia dental office. First, he’ll conduct a thorough examination, utilizing advanced technology, to assess your candidacy for dental implants. Ideal dental implant patients possess good oral and overall health, healthy gum tissue, and jawbone mass sufficient to accommodate implants. In cases of insufficient jawbone structure, Dr. Presser may recommend a bone graft, which he’ll perform prior to or at the same time as your implant surgery. He can also administer periodontal therapies to renew gum health in preparation for implants.

During the surgical procedure, Dr. Presser will place the tiny titanium implant posts into your jawbone. A process called osseointegration will occur, in which your jawbone will grow very tightly around the posts to provide a firm foundation for your custom crown, denture, partial, or bridge.

Mini Dental Implants

You may be a candidate for mini dental implants, a revolutionary technique to secure a loose denture, especially a lower one. Dr. Presser performs this minimally invasive procedure to give patients stable replacement teeth in a single appointment. Mini dental implants aren’t right for every denture wearer. At your consultation, Dr. Presser will help you determine if they’re the right choice for your smile.
