Periodontics & Gum Disease Therapy

Dr. Presser is a periodontist – a specialist in preventing, diagnosing, and treating gum (periodontal) disease. He helps patients maintain and renew gum health to make smiles last.

Gum disease is a bacterial infection that attacks healthy gum tissue. At first, the symptoms may be mild or not recognizable. Some patients with gingivitis (early-stage gum disease) experience red, swollen gums or gums that bleed during brushing. A deep cleaning by our hygienist can reverse the effects of gum disease at this point.

As gum disease worsens, pockets form between the teeth and gums. Bacteria thrive in these pockets, and the bonds that hold teeth and gum tissue together begin to loosen. Left untreated, tooth, gum, and bone loss may occur. Philadelphia periodontist Dr. Presser combats advanced gum disease with non-invasive treatments, including topical antibiotic therapy, that eliminate infection and renew good gum health.

Surgical intervention may be necessary to resolve periodontitis, the most severe form of gum disease. Dr. Presser performs periodontal (gum) surgery at our Philadelphia office. He uses state-of-the-art techniques and safe, effective anesthesia methods to make the procedure comfortable and successful.

The difference is in the details.
